Preseason Outlook

A sprained left wrist at the beginning of the 2009 season made Baker an afterthought in Colorado, but he had a chance to reassert himself after a midseason trade brought him to the Cubs. He spent some time as the team's everyday second baseman and hit .327 with three home runs in 159 at-bats in August and September. Given his poor strikeout-to-walk ratio, he's a safer bet for underrated power numbers than a high batting average, but he'll need to secure a starting job in Chicago to contribute anything Fantasy-wise. All the question marks make him undraftable in mixed leagues, but remember his name in case he earns regular at-bats and gets off to a hot start. (Updated 12/22/09)
