Preseason Outlook

Bay took advantage of his one full season in Boston, finishing with career highs of 36 home runs and 119 RBI. He hit a wall in June and July, hitting .213 with five homers, but he rebounded with 16 homers in August and September to earn him a fat contract with the Mets. In New York, he won't have quite the supporting cast he did in Boston, but he could still have a good one if David Wright, Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran all return to form. The bigger question for him is how he'll fair in spacious Citi Field, which has earned much of the blame for Wright's downfall. Even with the uncertainty, Bay is still a safer bet than most outfielders for 30 homers and 100 RBI, making him a top-10 player at the position and an early-round pick in Fantasy. Just watch out for that inconsistency if he gets off to a start that's too good to be true. (Updated 1/13/10)
