| Rangers void K. Greene's contract |
| (2/25/10) MLB.com reports that the Rangers have voided the contract of SS Khalil Greene, who decided not to join the team this spring because of anxiety issues. |
| K. Greene won't report to camp |
| (2/22/10) The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Rangers SS Khalil Greene will not be joining the team and will not report to spring training camp. Rangers GM Jon Daniels issued the following statement on Monday: "The Rangers fully support Khalil’s decision to address this private matter. Per club policy, we will not comment on his medical situation. We have agreed to leave the door open for a continued relationship, if both Khalil and the team desire that in the future. We have not put a timetable on a possible return to the club with the sole focus right now on doing what we can to assist him." |
| Greene agrees to deal with Texas |
| (1/21/10) Infielder Khalil Greene and the Rangers finalized a $750,000, one-year contract on Thursday. Texas was looking for a utility infielder who could play shortstop after the departure of free agent Omar Vizquel, who signed with the Chicago White Sox. Greene has played 678 games at shortstop in his career, and his only 16 games at third base came last season with St. Louis. Greene hit .200 with six homers in 77 games for the Cardinals last season. Before that, he was the starting shortstop for San Diego from 20-08. To make room of their 40-man roster, the Rangers designated outfielder Greg Golson for assignment. They have 10 days to trade him, put on him unconditional release waivers or send him outright to the minors. |

| (1/11/10) Two people familiar with the negotiations tell The Associated Press that free agent infielder Khalil Greene had agreed to a one-year contract to fill a utility role for the Rangers. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the contract hasn't been finalized. One of the people said Monday that a physical was pending. The Rangers were looking for a utility infielder who could play shortstop after the departure of free agent Omar Vizquel, who agreed to a $1.4 million deal with the Chicago White Sox in November. Greene spent last season with St. Louis, where he hit .200 with six homers in 77 games. Before that, he was the starting shortstop for San Diego from 2004-08. |
