Preseason Outlook

Guzman's career in jeopardy: Cubs RP Angel Guzman told the Chicago Sun-Times he plans to have surgery on his injured shoulder. Not just any surgery, a very risky surgery. He's been told that few pitchers ever comeback from this kind of procedure. "It's going to be tough," said Guzman, 28, who was diagnosed over the weekend with a significant ligament tear near his armpit and instability in the shoulder. "But it's better than not having it and not having a chance. Doing it, I have a small chance, but there is a chance. So I'm going to take the chance." Guzman did say that he hasn't made his final decision yet. "It's very sad, but what can I do?" he said. "I'm still breathing."

Fantasy Analysis

The Cubs medical staff is recommending four to six weeks of strengthening and conditioning before he can get back to throwing, but Guzman believes the surgery is necessary. If that is the case, he'd be out even longer and could essentially see his career come to an end. This is a sad tale, but the bottom line for Fantasy owners is he should not be on any rosters come opening day.
