Reds place Manny Parra (neck) on DL, move Bailey to 60-day DL
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(4/29/15) The Reds announced Wednesday they moved starting pitcher Homer Bailey from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen, who was called up from Triple-A Louisville to start against Milwaukee.
"We'll explore rehab and all options before deciding on potential surgery," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said about Bailey, per MLB Network Radio.
The Reds also announced reliever Manny Parra was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained neck. The left-hander is 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA in seven appearances (3 1/3 innings).
"It comes and goes. Hopefully with some work and getting on a regimen, I'll be able to prevent it from happening," said Parra, who can be activated May 9, per MLB.com. "I don't expect it to be any longer than it has to. I'm feeling a lot better today, but we have to make sure we have enough arms."
Reds' Manny Parra credited with loss against Cubs
|by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com|
|(4/14/15) Reds reliever Manny Parra was credited with one earned run in the bottom of the 10th inning of Cincinnati's 7-6 loss to the Cubs. As a result, he received a loss Monday night.
Parra walked Anthony Rizzo and then gave up a single to Jorge Soler, moving Rizzo to third base. Parra then walked Chris Coghlan, which loaded the bases. Burke Badenhop came in, recorded one out but then allowed Chicago's game-winning single to Arismendy Alcantara, which scored Rizzo.
This was the first earned run Parra has been charged with this season. He now holds an ERA of 9.00.
Jason Marquis strikes out seven in Reds no decision
|by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com|
|(4/10/15) Jason Marquis started his first MLB game since July 19, 2013 and earned a no decision in the Reds 5-4 win over the Cardinals.
Marquis struck out seven in six innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks.
Marquis threw 104 pitches, 61 for strikes. He left with the lead, but a blown save by Manny Parra cost him the win.
Marquis retired 12 straight at one point. Marquis is expected to make his next start on Wednesday, against the Cubs and Travis Wood.
Reds still sorting out bullpen options
|by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer|
|(3/19/15) While Aroldis Chapman is locked in as the Reds' closer, the eighth-inning job remains up in the air for the club as spring training winds down, according to MLB.com.
Sean Marshall is still recovering from shoulder surgery in 2014, leaving the set-up man spot as an open competition between a trio of players - Sam LeCure, Manny Parra and J.J. Hoover.
"I think right now what we're doing is we're trying to figure out who our best options are," Reds manager Bryan Price said.
"We're going to have to evolve as a bullpen. I think we know that Chapman's the closer and that we're going to have to evolve into roles to a certain degree," Price added. "Opening Day, I couldn't tell you who would be in the eighth inning. … There's a lot of balls in the air with the bullpen beyond the closer."
