Preseason Outlook

Cedeno, who always showed promise as a utility infielder for the Cubs, got a chance to start for the Mariners following the midseason trade of Yuniesky Betancourt, but he couldn't do much with it, hitting only .167 in 186 at-bats. The Mariners eventually lost patience with him and swapped him for the older and less-intriguing Jack Wilson. Cedeno looked a little more comfortable with the Pirates, hitting .250, but he still didn't do anything to relieve your doubts about him in Fantasy. He looks like the starter right now, but you can't help but get the feeling his potential exceeds his grasp. He has shown flashes of power at times, as evidenced by his 10 homers last year, but he can't seem to sustain it, as evidenced by his .337 slugging percentage. He isn't a complete hollow pick in NL-only leagues since that potential remains underneath all the poor numbers, but you better bring your lucky rabbit's foot with you. (Updated 1/5/10)
