Fantasy Analysis
There are obviously varying degrees of Fantasy relevance here, but the important note is these players are signed and their teams think enough of them to not have non-tendered them this winter. The arbitration process is designed to give raises to the deserving players with 2-6 years major league service time. These guys are going to make a lot more money this year and the question of just how much will be answered in the next month or so. (Updated 01/20/2010).
02/04/2010 13:37 Cubs settle with Marmol, reach minor league deal with Millar
Pitcher Carlos Marmol and the Chicago Cubs have agreed on a one-year deal. The contract is worth $2.1 million, midway between the figures the sides exchanged in arbitration last month.
Theriot's detractors will tell you he has no upside, and you know what? They're right. He won't rank among the top 10 Fantasy shortstops this season. Then again, he won't finish outside the top 20 either. He does what he does: get on base just often enough to keep his slap-hitting self in the lineup. His five home runs last May were cute, but an aberration, as his two homers the rest of the way indicated. So why draft him? Hey, those 20-plus steals each of the last three seasons mean something in Rotisserie leagues, and just like his on-base percentage does just enough keeps him in the lineup, it does just enough not to kill you in Head-to-Head leagues. He might go undrafted in your league, but something will happen to force him into someone's lineup eventually. (Updated 1/5/10)
