Santos keeps progressing for Jays: Toronto injured closer Sergio Santos has begun throwing at 115-120 feet, reports Sportsnet.ca on Monday. Santos hopes to begin long tossing by the end of the week. He should progress incrementally from there. Santos needs to lengthen out a bit more before he gets back on a mound. (Updated 05/21/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Santos is closer than ever, but still has a few more steps before he's ready for mound work. Santos will likely need a rehab assignment after that as well. He has a ways until he's back on the mound for Toronto. Santos pitched to a 9.00 ERA and went 2 for 4 in save chances before landing on the DL. He will be the team's closer when he can return, so Fantasy owners should stash him in deeper mixed leagues for now. Continue to monitor his progress going forward. (Updated 05/21/2012).

04/07/2012 16:59 Jays foil Jimenez no-no, top Indians in 12

04/06/2012 12:16 Beyond the Numbers: Are park factors always a factor?

04/05/2012 20:40 Blue Jays outlast Indians in 16 innings
J.P. Arencibia's three-run homer in the 16th inning sent the Toronto Blue Jays to a 7-4 win over the Cleveland Indians on Thursday in the longest opening-day game in major league history.
Making the switch from being a struggling minor league shortstop to being a major league closer seems like it would be hard, but Sergio Santos made the conversion in three years and made it look easy. While Matt Thornton and Chris Sale couldn't stick as the White Sox closer last year, Santos was able to step in and convert 30 of 36 save chances. Now Santos returns to Toronto, where he failed as a shortstop prospect, only now he will close out games for the Blue Jays. Control is still an issue for Santos, who has walked a batter nearly every other inning as a major leaguer, but his phenomenally high strikeout rate will help to keep him viable in mixed leagues. Look to draft Santos as a No. 2 Fantasy relief pitcher in those formats. (Updated 2/21/12)
