| Mike Adams pitches through biceps issue |

(6/12/13) Phillies reliever Mike Adams was able to pitch Tuesday against the Twins, after tossing a bullpen session prior to the game to test his biceps injury.
Adams entered the game in an important spot, tied 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth, and the rust from not pitching for five days showed. Adams walked the first batter he faced and allowed a single to the second. He retired the next two batters, before being pulled with runners at the corners.
One of his inherited runs would come around to score, saddling Adams with an earned run and a loss for two-thirds of an inning of work.
Adams is now 1-4 with a 4.22 ERA on the season.

(6/11/13) Phillies reliever Mike Adams threw a bullpen session prior to Tuesday's game against the Twins, and it is not clear when he will be available to pitch in a game due to biceps tendinitis.
Neither Adams nor manager Charlie Manuel was able to tell the Philadelphia Inquirer whether Adams will be available to pitch Tuesday, after he has been held out four days in a row due to the injury.
"I hope so," Adams said when asked if he was cleared. "I thought I was up the other day."

(6/8/13) Phillies reliever Mike Adams told reporters Friday that he is dealing with biceps tendinitis in front part of shoulder. Adams is not worried about the injury and believes it could clear up in a couple of days.
Adams has not pitched since Thursday. He has pitched twice since returning from the disabled list with a back injury. The right-hander has a 3.92 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP in 23 appearances.

(5/28/13) Phillies reliever Mike Adams made his first appearance Monday since coming back from a back injury, and the rust from not throwing a rehab assignment was apparent. Adams walked three batters and could not finish the inning despite throwing 30 pitches.
"He needs work," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "He definitely needs work. The part that was discouraging was 30 pitches. That means that we can’t use him [Tuesday]. He threw some balls that were close and he ended up walking some."
Adams ultimately allowed one run on one hit in the outing, to raise his ERA to 3.45 on the season. It was his first appearance in a game since May 10.

(5/26/13) The Phillies have activated reliever Mike Adams from the disabled list, the club announced Sunday.
Adams has spent the last 16 days recovering from a back strain. The Phillies were confident enough in his health to skip a rehab assignment. The reliever owns a 3.00 ERA and 19 strikeouts over 15 innings.

| Mike Adams has been among the more reliable middle relievers in baseball for the past five seasons, compiling a 1.98 ERA and 0.99 WHIP while striking out a batter per inning over that span. His 2012 campaign with the Rangers produced one of his less-spectacular lines in recent memory (3.27 ERA, 1.40 WHIP), but it was hurt by a 4.15 ERA in nine September appearances, brought on by a neck sprain and thoracic outlet syndrome. Adams had surgery for the TOS, and should be ready for 2013, where he will pitch in middle relief for the Phillies. Consider Adams a deep NL-only option, able to help in ERA and WHIP while providing some strikeouts, as well. (Updated 1/8/13) |
