|Mike Adams still not cleared to throw |
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
(6/28/14) Phillies pitcher Mike Adams still hasn't been cleared to throw as he continues to recover from a right shoulder injury.
Adams, who is rehabbing from inflammation in his right rotator cuff, hopes to be able to head to the team's spring training facility in Florida to continue his rehab there. According to MLB.com, he visited with the team physician this week and said he felt some pain while the doctor moved his shoulder. He has to be pain free before he can begin a throwing program.
|Mike Adams has developed into one of the premier setup men in the major leagues. Unfortunately, his career suffered a minor hiccup in 2013. After signing a two-year, $12 million contract with the Phillies, Adams would barely last three months before a shoulder injury sidelined him the rest of the season. Adams, who also missed time with a back injury last season, went 1-4 with a 3.96 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in his first season with the Phillies. He had a 1.98 ERA and 0.99 WHIP over his previous five seasons. Adams didn't record his first hold until late April and finished with eight before his season ended in late June. Adams underwent surgery last summer, but he's expected to be fine for the start of the season. As long as Adams rebounds to the form he showed before hurting his shoulder, then he's a viable Fantasy option in leagues that reward for holds and Rotisserie formats.
