| Mike Adams ready to go after throwing batting practice |

(5/24/13) The Phillies initially wanted reliever Mike Adams to get a rehab assignment in before activating him from the disabled list, but they announced Friday that he is ready and will be back with the team Sunday. Adams has been out with a back strain and is eligible to return for the first time Sunday.
Adams threw live batting practice Friday and had no problems with his back, so the team will have him skip the minors.
"While he was a little rusty at not having thrown in several days, he physically felt fine," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a statement, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

(5/24/13) Contrary to reports from earlier in the week, CSNPhilly.com reported Friday that Phillies reliever Mike Adams will be activated from the disabled list Sunday.
The team was originally planning on having Adams face live hitters in a rehab game Monday, but apparently has decided that facing hitters in batting practice Friday is enough. Adams has been on the disabled list since May 10 due to a back strain.

(5/22/13) Phillies reliever Mike Adams hopes to return from the disabled list before the end of the weekend, but that does not appear to be the team's plan, according to pitching coach Rich Dubee.
"He's throwing fine," Dubee told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "But he needs to see some hitters."
Adams is set to go to extended spring training in Clearwater, Fla., to face hitters in batting practice Friday then in a rehab game Monday. Assuming everything goes well in his recovery from a back strain, he is likely to be activated no sooner than Tuesday.

(5/22/13) Phillies reliever Mike Adams threw a bullpen session Wednesday as part of a recovery from a back injury, CSN Philadelphia announced.
Adams went on the disabled list this week due to a back strain. He had no problems in the session and will throw again Friday; a Sunday return is possible.

(5/20/13) Phillies reliever Mike Adams has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Adams had been day-to-day with a back strain, but it was unclear whether he would be placed on the disabled list. He has not appeared in a game since May 10. Adams has a 3.00 ERA through 15 innings this season.

| Mike Adams has been among the more reliable middle relievers in baseball for the past five seasons, compiling a 1.98 ERA and 0.99 WHIP while striking out a batter per inning over that span. His 2012 campaign with the Rangers produced one of his less-spectacular lines in recent memory (3.27 ERA, 1.40 WHIP), but it was hurt by a 4.15 ERA in nine September appearances, brought on by a neck sprain and thoracic outlet syndrome. Adams had surgery for the TOS, and should be ready for 2013, where he will pitch in middle relief for the Phillies. Consider Adams a deep NL-only option, able to help in ERA and WHIP while providing some strikeouts, as well. (Updated 1/8/13) |
