Preseason Outlook

After looking like he'd have to play a reserve role in his first year with the Yankees, Swisher not only ended up starting in 2009, but he put together a career-high .869 OPS. His starting job came from Xavier Nady's need for Tommy John surgery, and his career-high OPS came from ... well, maybe a hint of maturity for the 29-year-old. It certainly didn't come from his move to Yankee Stadium, where he hit only eight home runs compared to 21 on the road. As usual, much of his OPS came from his abnormally high walk rate, his .249 batting average dragging down his value in Rotisserie leagues. But he did show more consistency than in the past, rebounding from a terrible May to hit no less than .247 any other month. He'll never contend for a batting title, making him sort of a poor man's Adam Dunn. Still, that means he has good to offer along with the bad. His power should lead to 85-plus RBI, and his walk rate should lead to 85-plus runs scored. If he slips far enough beyond Round 10 or so, he's a value in Fantasy. (Updated 1/18/10)
