| Travis Blackley comes off DL |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (4/20/13) The Astros activated pitcher Travis Blackley off the 15-day disabled list Saturday.
Blackley, who completed a brief rehab assignment for his shoulder injury, will pitch in long relief at first. He could eventually be an option for the rotation down the line.

| Travis Blackley gets back to work |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (4/19/13) Astros pitcher Travis Blackley began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City Thursday as he continues his recovery from a shoulder injury. The left-hander allowed a run over two innings without permitting a hit and also struck out a batter.
Blackley retired the first six batters he faced before plunking Aaron Cunningham with a pitch to open the third inning and was then removed. There is no clear timetable for his return to the team after he was placed on the disabled list earlier this month with a strained left shoulder.

| Astros place Travis Blackley on DL |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (4/6/13) The Astros placed pitcher Travis Blackley on the 15-day disabled list due to a left shoulder strain Saturday and recalled Dallas Keuchel from the minors.
Blackley, acquired from the A's this past week after being designated for assignment, will spend the next two weeks on the shelf as the team figures out how best to use him. It is unclear when his injury was suffered.

| Astros acquire Travis Blackley from A's |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (4/4/13) The Astros acquired left-handed pitcher Travis Blackley from the A's Thursday in exchange for minor-league outfielder Jake Goebbert. Blackley was designated for assignment by the A's on March 29.
Blackley allowed 20 earned runs on 27 hits in 12 2/3 innings with the A's this spring. He has posted a 5.37 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 92:59 K:BB ratio in 142 1/3 innings during his major-league career.

| Travis Blackley packs his bags |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (3/29/13) The Athletics designated pitcher Travis Blackley and first baseman Daric Barton for assignment Friday, as they begin to trim down their roster heading into the regular season.
Blackley posted a 3.86 ERA in 102 2/3 innings for Oakland last season, but struggled mightily in the spring. He put up a 14.21 EA in seven Cactus League outings, likely sealing his fate.
Blackley told the San Francisco Chronicle that he may choose to decline his minor-league assignment if he clears waivers, making him a free agent. He said it would be a tough decision to leave the A's, but would do it if he can catch on somewhere in he majors.

| When the Giants called up Travis Blackley to make a handful of relief appearances last May, it had the look of a feel-good story, as Blackley had not pitched in the majors since 2007. However, that was just the beginning of Blackley's improbable journey. The A's claimed Blackley off waivers after the Giants dumped him in mid-May, and he earned a place in Oakland's rotation. He finished the year with a 6-4 record and a 4.04 ERA after making 15 starts and 13 relief appearances, but in 2013, it will be back to Square One for Blackley. He will come to the Athletics' camp without a secure job, and if he does make the roster, it will likely be as a reliever. Still, Blackley could be needed as a replacement starter at some point during the year, so he's worth keeping on your radar in AL-only leagues. (Updated 1/8/13) |
