Bartlett might not have job waiting: According to the North County Times, San Diego shortstop Jason Bartlett may not have a starting job once he returns from the disabled list. Bartlett landded on the shelf with a strained right knee Thursday and replaced by Everth Cabrera. "Jason understands these guys are coming up and there's no guarantee of a job waiting on the other side," Padres general manager Josh Byrnes said. "That's just the way we're set up now." Fantasy Analysis
Byrnes' statement comes on the heels of the team's release of another struggling veteran in Orlando Hudson. Though Bartlett hasn't been cut, San Diego is leaning toward giving Cabrera everyday at-bats. Bartlett is hitting just .133 with only four RBI in 29 games this season, and the team has shown it is not shy of removing players. Fantasy owners should continue seeking other alternatives over Bartlett at this point. (Updated 05/18/2012).

05/11/2012 12:20 Treating Fantasy like the game it is
There are plenty of under-the-radar types in Fantasy that are delivering for a handful of owners. Our Nando Di Fino comes up with a creative way to get his point across about a few of his favorite sleepers.
In his first season as a Padre, Jason Bartlett took another step backwards, experiencing a second straight year of decline. Bartlett can't blame PETCO Park for his tepid offensive numbers, since he was not much of a home run hitter to start with. His doubles total dipped from 27 in 2010 to 22 last season, even though he received 86 more-at bats. At the core of Bartlett's struggles is a plunging flyball rate, which has fallen from 37 percent to 27 percent over the last two seasons. Producing little besides groundouts, at least Bartlett benefits from playing for run-happy manager Bud Black, and he could produce 20-plus steals again, even with a sub-.250 batting average. That, and not much else, will make Bartlett worth drafting in NL-only leagues. (Updated 1/26/12)
