| Quad bothering Jason Kubel again |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (5/17/13) Diamondbacks outfielder Jason Kubel has not been in the starting lineup since Sunday, after reaggravating the left quadriceps injury that forced him to go on the disabled list earlier in the season.
Kubel will try to play Friday against the Marlins after appearing twice in the team's last three games as a pinch-hitter.

| Jason Kubel stuck in deep slumber |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (5/13/13) Diamondbacks outfielder Jason Kubel went 1 for 3 to halt a three-game hitless skid during Sunday's 4-2 loss to Philadelphia. Kubel, who was remained out of the lineup against left-handed pitchers, has tallied just two hits over his past seven games as his batting average has plummeted to .254.
Over his first 11 games during the month of May, the veteran slugger has started just six games, and has amassed more strikeouts (seven) than hits and walks combined (six).
|
| Jason Kubel set career highs in home runs (30) and strikeouts (151) in 2012, while getting his second-highest total of doubles (30) and his second-highest OPS (.833). He managed 506 at-bats, even though the Diamondbacks outfield had a plethora of players who could man the corners. Kubel emerged as the power-hitter of the group, though, and with the jettisoning of Chris Young, he is set to start at one of the corners -- assuming the team doesn't decide to go with Gerardo Parra instead. But with Justin Upton and Adam Eaton looking like they can supply all the speed needed in the outfield, one would have to think a power bat like Kubel's would get the shot at playing time. If the team decides to push Parra off to the side, expect another shot at 30 home runs for Kubel, with an average that could be anywhere from .250 to .285. He's a late-round pick in deeper mixed leagues and a nice source of power for NL-only formats. (Updated 12/4/12) |
