Preseason Outlook

Now that he's a Yankee, you can bet Granderson won't fly under the radar on Draft Day. Unfortunately, you wouldn't want to bet on much else. He hasn't been the most consistent player over his four full major-league seasons, having stood on the edge of superstardom in 2007 only to decline in the two years since -- his batting average, slugging percentage and OPS all trending in the wrong direction. He hit a career-high 30 home runs last year, which is all fine and good, but what else does he offer exactly? His .249 batting average last year seems like an aberration, but considering he can't seem to hit over .200 against lefties, you have to wonder, given his lack of track record, what the norm is for him. You know you can count on him for some stolen bases, but how many? His career high is only 26, and it came way back in 2007. If nothing else, you know he'll score plenty of runs in a loaded Yankee lineup, and the outside shot of him joining the 30-30 club makes him plenty valuable in Fantasy. Just don't make him more than your second outfielder. (Updated 1/13/10)
