Fantasy Analysis
The Pirates had a feeling this injury would sideline Correia for the year. He could maybe recover in time to make a relief appearance or two, but with the Pirates out of the playoff race, what's the point? The 31-year-old right-hander had a solid first season in Pittsburgh, even earning an All-Star nod. But he struggled down the stretch and finished with a disappointing 4.79 ERA. Though he has been a serviceable mixed-league option at times, Correia will likely go undrafted in standard Fantasy leagues next year, given his lack of upside. (Updated 09/06/2011).

08/13/2011 19:24 Brewers staff tosses three-hitter; blank Pirates
Marco Estrada pitched five innings in a spot start, combining with four relievers on a three-hitter, and Yuniesky Betancourt homered to carry the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers to a 1-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
After posting back-to-back double-digit win campaigns in his final two seasons with the Padres, Kevin Correia signed with the Pirates last offseason and got off to a solid start. He went 11-7 with a 4.01 ERA in the first half in 2011, en route to earning his first trip to the All-Star game. He would tail off after that, posting a 6.26 ERA over his final 12 starts, before a strained left oblique ended his season in late August. The right-hander matched his career high with 12 wins but failed to record more than 100 strikeouts for the first time since 2008. Correia gives up too many hits with less than a strikeout per inning, which limits his value in Fantasy, but he should be able to improve in his second season with the Pirates. Target Correia in NL-only formats and some deeper mixed leagues on Draft Day in 2012. (Updated 1/12/12)
