Mitre avoids surgery: Yankees RP Sergio Mitre got some encouraging news from Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday. He'll avoid surgery for now, according to MLB.com. He's hoping to be healthy for spring training in 2012 for the Yankees. He has a nerve issue in his pitching shoulder, but has no structural damage. (Updated 08/23/2011)
