|by Al Melchior | Data Analyst|

|Chad Gaudin, Javier Lopez enter free agency |
|by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(11/6/13) Giants starting pitcher Chad Gaudin and relief pitcher Javier Lopez have declared free agency. Gaudin went 5-1 with a 3.53 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 12 starts down the stretch for the Giants but may attract more attention as a reliever.
|Chad Gaudin stepped into the Giants' rotation last June when the team needed a replacement for Ryan Vogelsong, who would be sidelined for a few months with a hand injury. What the Giants got was pretty surprising production from Gaudin, who went 5-1 with a 3.53 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 12 starts before he hit the disabled list in mid-August because of carpal tunnel syndrome. Prior to joining the rotation, Gaudin also made 18 appearances as a reliever. He finished the season with a 5-2 record, 3.06 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 97 innings. Despite his strong campaign and versatility, the Giants let Gaudin walk in the offseason and he eventually signed a minor-league deal with the Phillies in January. It would be great if Gaudin landed a starting role, since his dual-eligibility would play big in Fantasy formats where he's allowed to be used as a reliever. But even then, Gaudin wouldn't be more than a late-round flier in deeper formats.
