Preseason Outlook

Everything seemed to be going right for Weeks in 2009 -- finally. The second overall pick in the 2003 draft was hitting .272, only the second time he had hit over .240, with a career high .857 OPS and nine home runs in 147 at-bats. Then, an awkward swing in mid May tore the tendon sheath in his left wrist, ending his season. He has all the talent in the world, but injuries remain as much of his problem as strikeouts and inconsistency. He has yet to play more than 129 games in a season. He'll return in spring training and will hopefully show he didn't lose too much of the progress he made at the beginning of last season, but he still offers more potential than results at this stage of his career. Don't forget about him in the later rounds if you miss out on the elite options early. He'll give you power and speed, but he might hurt your batting average and force you to find a replacement at some point. (Updated 12/22/09)
