Pirates place Corey Hart on 15-day DL on Wednesday

|(6/24/15) The Pirates placed outfielder/first baseman Corey Hart on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday due to a left shoulder impingement.
“It's something he's been dealing with for a while,” manager Clint Hurdle said of Hart's shoulder impingement, per the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “After yesterday, talking with him, we feel this is the proper time to get him some rest, to get it right, and then get him some at-bats and see where that can take us.”
Hart has not played much this season, totaling 35 appearances and 11 starts. He is batting just .222 with one double, two home runs and nine RBI.
Pirates 1B Corey Hart ends shutout Sunday with home run

|(6/21/15) Pirates first baseman Corey Hart provided one bright light in a dark afternoon for his team Sunday. He slammed a two-run homer in the ninth inning to end the shutout against Washington. The 446-foot blast was his second in 54 at-bats this season.
Hart owns a slash line of .222/.246/.352 on the year.
Pirates DH Corey Hart snaps hitless streak, goes 3 for 3
|by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer|
|(6/18/15) Pirates first baseman Corey Hart had not recorded a hit in his last 10 at-bats before Thursday's game against the White Sox.
On Thursday, Hart went a perfect 3 for 3 with three singles and boosted his batting average to .220 on the year.
|2014 summary: Corey Hart had emerged as one of the top power hitters in the game before missing all of 2013 because of surgery on both knees, but that player was nowhere to be found in his return last year. OK, so he actually started off pretty well with four home runs and an .891 OPS in 13 games, but he hit just two with a .503 OPS in 55 games thereafter, becoming a fixture on the Mariners bench to close out the season.|
Playing time status: Hart did suffer two injuries along the way -- a strained hamstring that cost him six weeks beginning in late May and a bruised knee that cost him a month beginning in early August -- and of course, it's reasonable to think he wasn't at 100 percent from the get-go. Still, the performance doesn't leave him much hope of salvaging his career at age 33, especially since his new team, Pittsburgh, doesn't exactly have an opening for him.
2015 outlook: Hart's best chance for at-bats with the Pirates is as the other half of a lefty-righty platoon with Pedro Alvarez, who himself is transitioning from third to first base. Hart has hit lefties better than righties in his career, though not dramatically so, and the 200-something at-bats he'd get in that role wouldn't amount to much even if he did bounce back. Of course, if he shows signs of bouncing back, maybe he'll get a bigger role, but that's too big of an "if" outside of deeper NL-only leagues.
