(7/5/14) White Sox pitcher Ronald Belisario took a loss Saturday, giving up one earned run on three hits in three innings and striking out one in his team's 3-2, 14-inning defeat against the Mariners.
Belisario (3-5) contributed the lion's share of the work in extras, pitching scoreless 12th and 13th innings before allowing the go-ahead run to score on a ground-rule double in the 14th. He has surrendered a run in three straight outings, though his last two appearances were both multi-inning stints, helping to lower his ERA to 5.31 to go with a 30:8 K:BB ratio in 42 1/3 innings.
|White Sox will go with a closer by committee for now |
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
(6/28/14) The White Sox will go with a closer by committee approach for now, according to CSN.
Ronald Belisario had been the club's closer, but was pulled Friday after struggling in the ninth. The club turned to Eric Surkamp, and then Jake Petricka to pick up the save. Manager Robin Ventura claims the team will use matchups to dictate who closes.

(6/27/14) The White Sox officially removed Ronald Belisario from the closer's role Friday according to the Chicago Sun Times, after he struggled yet again in a 5-4 win over the Blue Jays.
Belisario entered Friday's game with the intention of closing out the game, but was pulled after retiring just one of four batters face. He allowed a solo home run to the leadoff hitter, and then surrendered consecutive one-out singles before he was lifted from the game.
Belisario ended up blowing four saves in 10 tries as the closer, and has a 5.79 ERA in 37 1/3 innings. He will likely return to a middle relief role for now, though the White Sox have yet to announce their plans for the role.
|Ronald Belisario got off to a rocky start in 2013 for the Dodgers, posting a 4.94 ERA and 1.81 WHIP in his first 33 appearances. Belisario nearly had as many blown saves (four) as holds (five) in that stretch. Luckily, Belisario eventually settled down and finished the season as one of the Dodgers' top setup men. Belisario posted a 3.16 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 16 holds in his final 44 relief appearances (37 innings). Belisario ended up with a team-leading 21 holds. Still, that wasn't enough for the Dodgers to bring him back, opting to let him test free agency. Belisario would quickly find work with the White Sox, where he will likely serve as a setup man. Consider Belisario more of a Fantasy option for Rotisserie formats and leagues that reward holds.
