Twins RP Blaine Boyer notches first save in four years
|by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer|
|(5/30/15) Twins reliever Blaine Boyer picked up his first save of the season, and just the third of his career in Saturday's win over the Blue Jays. Boyer, whose last save came as a member of the Mets in April 2011, pitched a perfect ninth inning to preserve the 3-2 victory on Saturday.
The veteran right-hander has been quite effective out of the Twins bullpen this season, as he currently holds a 2.19 ERA over 24 2/3 innings.
Regular closer Glen Perkins had worked each of the last three games for the Twins, so manager Paul Molitor likely wanted to give Perkins a day off.
Twins pitcher Blaine Boyer supplants Casey Fien in setup role
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(5/27/15) Twins pitcher Casey Fien won't likely have the same role he had before going on the disabled list, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Reliever Blaine Boyer has supplanted himself in the setup man role, according to manager Paul Molitor.
"I like what Boyer's done," Molitor said. "I think everyone has a lot of confidence when he's in the game late right now. Not to say that can't change.
"I guess if I had to say right now, in the short term, most likely Fien would precede Boyer in a ball game."
Fien is expected to return from the disabled list this week after battling a shoulder injury for the last month. Fien is 1-2 with a 4.35 ERA in 10 1/3 innings of work.
Twins' Molitor has confidence in Blaine Boyer
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(5/13/15) Twins manager Paul Molitor expressed confidence in pitcher Blaine Boyer in late-game situations Wednesday, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
"With Casey Fien out, he's the one guy out there I look to late in games from the right-handed side and have a lot of confidence to bring in," Molitor said.
Boyer hasn't allowed a run since April 12 and owns a 2.76 ERA and 7:4 K:BB ratio in 16 1/3 innings.
