RP Keppel leaving to play in Japan
(1/6/10) The Twins released righty reliever Bobby Keppel on Wednesday. Keppel will play in Japan. He had a 4.83 ERA in 54 innings with 21 walks and 32 strikeouts last season for the Twins, picking up his first major-league victory with a scoreless 12th inning in their tiebreaker win over Detroit to win the AL Central title.
Keppel released by Twins
(1/5/10) The Twins released RHP Bob Keppel, clearing a spot on the 40-man roster.
Keppel an emergency option
(9/29/09) From The Sports Xchange notes: RHP Bobby Keppel, manager Ron Gardenhire said, is an option for getting a start this weekend if Minnesota's pitching staff becomes too bungled thanks to Tuesday's doubleheader. Keppel has worked 11 2/3 innings in September and compiled a 3.09 ERA during that time. For the season, Keppel has a 4.80 ERA in 50 2/3 innings of work.
Keppel attributes success to luck
(7/10/09) The Sports Xchange notes that Bobby Keppel said the key to his big-league success -- he hasn't allowed a run in 11 1/3 innings of work and has given up just six hits during that time -- has been largely luck. Keppel works primarily off a sinker and said nothing's changed about that two-seamer since his call-up from Triple-A Rochester. "I told you guys, that first game, if that first guy scores or (INF Brendan) Harris doesn't make that play up the middle against Kansas City, then people wouldn't be talking the way they are about me," Keppel said. "It's just, right now, the bounces are going my way."
Twins call up Keppel
(6/22/09) The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports that the Twins have called up RP Bobby Keppel from Triple-A. No corresponding roster move has been announced.
