| Jesse Crain with no restrictions for White Sox |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (4/1/13) Chicago reliever Jesse Crain, who missed a good chunk of spring training due to a right adductor strain, has no restrictions or limitations as the regular season opens Monday against the Royals, reports MLB.com.
"He's fine," said White Sox manager Robin Ventura. "It's different with pitchers than players as far as his side and things like that. He's probably better off than most players that are on the field."
Crain added: "I'm ready. It's to the point where I can do regular stuff or else I wouldn't be here."

| Jesse Crain suiting up for start |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (3/30/13) White Sox relief pitcher Jesse Crain was cleared for the start of the regular season after revealing no setbacks during his last Cactus League appearance on Friday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Crain posted a 12.27 ERA after dealing with a groin injury that limited him to just four games during the spring.
"Everything's good [with his health] so he made the team," manager Robin Ventura said Saturday.

| Jesse Crain expected to be ready for opener |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (3/29/13) White Sox reliever Jesse Crain took the mound in a relief appearance Friday night against the Brewers.
Crain yielded one hit and struck out one as he tossed a scoreless innings of work in a 7-2 victory. It was his first scoreless outing of the spring since Feb. 25. Crain is working his way back from a groin issue and should be ready for the season opener. Manager Robin Ventura would like to see him "let it go" on the mound.
"He's been holding back a little bit in the way he pitches," Ventura said. "It's going to be cold when we're at home. He's got to be able to go out there and play."
|
| Since 2009, Jesse Crain has seen steady improvement in his ERA, dropping it from 4.70 (in 2009) to 2.44 (in 2012) while raising his k/9 ratio in the process -- it topped out at 11.3 in 2012, as Crain struck out 60 batters in 48 innings. Crain missed some time with a strained shoulder last year, but seems fine for 2013 and looks like the probable backup to Addison Reed for saves. Even if Reed keeps the role all year, Crain still has value in deeper AL-only leagues as a nice source of low ratios and high strikeouts. (Updated 1/8/13) |
