|Jesse Crain performs agility drills Tuesday |
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
(2/25/14) Due to the improvement in his strained right calf, Astros pitcher Jesse Crain took part in agility drills Tuesday, MLB.com reports.
While the improvement in his calf in encouraging, Crain's biggest focus is getting his arm rounded into form after undergoing biceps tendinitis surgery in October.
"The calf's getting a lot better," Crain said Tuesday. "I should be out and hopefully running within the next week. The good thing is if I was on the mound throwing and getting ready for the season and this happened, it would be a setback. As far as where I am with my throwing program, it didn't affect any of that. That's a good thing and it's still a process, day-by-day thing and building my arm strength back up. Hopefully every day it's getting stronger, which it is."
Crain is one of the leading candidates for saves in the Houston bullpen if he can get and stay healthy.

(2/19/14) Astros pitcher Jesse Crain is dealing with a calf strain, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Crain injured his calf while exercising in the gym. He is still able able to work on his arm strength despite the injury. Crain posted a 0.74 ERA in 36 2/3 innings last season.
|Jesse Crain had arguably the best season of his career in 2013, finishing with a 0.74 ERA and 1.15 WHIP, while posting a career-best 11.3 K/9. A mid-season shoulder injury prevented him from pitching for the Rays after a deadline deal, but Crain should be good to go for the 2014 season. And by joining the Astros in an offseason deal, Crain suddenly becomes a lock for 30 saves -- assuming the shoulder injury is behind him. Look for Crain in the later rounds of most drafts, where he can be a sleeper candidate for saves, strikeouts, and low ratios.
