|Movement on mound turns Joe Blanton around |
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
(3/14/14) One foot has meant a lot to Angels right-hander Joe Blanton. His move from the first-base side to the third-base side of the rubber did him wonders on Wednesday.
Blanton pitched five one-hit shutout innings while walking none against Texas. The outing could go a long way in him securing a bullpen spot with the rotation seemingly secure from top to bottom.
"Joe looked great," Mike Scioscia told the Orange County Register. "I think a lot of the things were tangible, as far as some of the angles he could create. Going to the other side of the mound gave him a slightly different perspective. He pitched well against some good hitters."
The only chance for Blanton to work his way into the rotation would be through injury or a collapse of current fifth starter Tyler Skaggs.

(3/12/14) Angels pitcher Joe Blanton allowed just one hit in five scoreless innings while striking out five in his team's 12-1 win over the Rangers Wednesday.
It was a massive turnaround for Blanton after giving up nine earned runs in 5 2/3 innings over his first two starts. Wednesday's gem gives him a 7.59 ERA and 9:2 K:BB ratio through 10 2/3 innings.

(3/7/14) Joe Blanton is on the outside looking in at a rotation spot for the Angels and his performance Friday against Colorado will not help him. He gave up seven earned runs on eight hits in just 3 1/3 innings. Among them were four home runs.
Blanton suffered through a miserable 2013 season with the Dodgers. He finished 2-14 with a 6.04 ERA. He gave up 29 home runs in just 132 2/3 innings.
|Joe Blanton hit hard Sunday vs. A's |
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
(3/2/14) Angels right-hander Joe Blanton, who is hoping to break the rotation, endured a rough outing on Sunday against the A's.
Making his first appearance for the Angels this spring, Blanton surrendered a two-run double to Yoenis Cespedes fifth inning. He allowed two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out two over 2 1/3 innings of work.
|Angels could trade or release Joe Blanton |
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
(2/28/14) Angels pitcher Joe Blanton could be traded or released if he can't break the rotation, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Blanton is on the outside looking in, as Hector Santiago and Tyler Skaggs are expected to open the year at the back of the rotation. Manager Mike Scioscia said he doesn't envision the team carrying a long-man in the bullpen, which pushes Blanton out of a spot. He's owed $8.5 million by the club this season.
Blanton posted a 6.04 ERA in 132 2/3 innings last year.
