| Joe Blanton allows 11 hits in no-decision |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (8:29 pm ET) Angels starting pitcher Joe Blanton allowed 11 hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings of work Saturday against the White Sox, striking out six batters while allowing four earned runs. He was on the hook for the loss when he left the game, but his offense took the lead in the bottom of the fifth.
Blanton's time in the rotation could be coming to an end soon with Jered Weaver and Tommy Hanson expected to rejoin the Angels soon. Blanton, who has allowed 23 hits in nine innings over his last two starts, could face the Royals next weekend.

| Angels, Joe Blanton can't reach promised land |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (5/14/13) Despite his personal assessment, Angels pitcher Joe Blanton continues to be hit hard during his first season with the club as his winless streak reaches historic levels. Blanton dropped to 0-7 following his loss to Kansas City on Monday night as he matched his shortest outing of the season at 4 2/3 innings.
In all eight of his starts, the right-hander has been tagged for at least seven runs and currently owns a 6.46 ERA. It's the first time in the Angels' 53-year history that they have been on the losing end in all of a pitcher's first eight starts in a season.
"I felt like I threw the ball good tonight and my stuff was good," Blanton said. "When they made contact they found holes, broken-bat balls fell in for singles and balls bounced their way down the lines. It was one of those weird games. There were a couple of innings where I was one pitch away from it. But they got a couple of two-out hits that cost me three or four of those runs."

| Joe Blanton knocked around by Royals |
by Adam Moore | CBSSports.com (5/14/13) Angels starter Joe Blanton was hit early and often during Monday's series opener against the Royals. Blanton allowed a season-high seven runs on 12 hits over 4 2/3 innings in an 11-4 defeat, including an RBI double off the bat of Billy Butler in the opening frame.
However, most of the damage he surrendered came in the fifth as Kansas City plated three runs, including two on a two-run double by Salvador Perez, which chased Blanton from the game.
He was pulled after throwing 99 pitches and finished with seven strikeouts and no walks, while taking his seventh loss.
Blanton (0-7) will look to get in the win column when he faces the White Sox Saturday afternoon.

| Joe Blanton solid again but still looking for first win |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (5/8/13) Angels starting pitcher Joe Blanton turned in his third straight quality start, holding the Astros to three earned runs on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings while striking out six and walking none. However, it wasn't enough to avoid falling to 0-6 on the season as the Angels lost, 3-1.
It was the first time this season Blanton escaped a start without walking a batter. He takes a 5.66 ERA and 22:11 K:BB ratio in 41 1/3 innings into a meeting with the Royals in Anaheim Monday.

| Joe Blanton lasts eight innings in loss |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (5/3/13) Angels starting pitcher Joe Blanton lasted eight innings Thursday against the Orioles but took the loss after surrendering three runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out three.
The loss dropped Blanton to 0-5 through six starts, but his 5.97 ERA is the first time he's had an ERA under 7.00 this year. He's given up a league-worst 55 hits. Blanton is in line to face the Astros in Houston in his start next week.

| With his decision to sign with the Angels this offseason, Joe Blanton goes where he hasn't been in four years: the American League. Unfortunately, his time in the National League didn't do anything to boost Fantasy owners' confidence in him. Not only did he battle injuries for much of that time, missing most of 2011 with an impingement in his elbow, but he compiled a 4.51 ERA in 115 appearances, including 110 starts. True, pitching in a hitter's park in Philadelphia for most of that time didn't help, but he wasn't any better in a 10-start stint with the Dodgers late last year, posting a 4.99 ERA. At a time in baseball's history when pitching is back on the rise, with so many young hurlers putting up what Fantasy owners used to regard as ace numbers, a 4.00 ERA and 1.30 WHIP just doesn't measure up anymore. And against AL lineups, Blanton might have trouble achieving even that. Because he's capable of pitching deep into games, he might deliver some cheap wins for AL-only owners, but that's about it.
