Aardsma begins throwing sliders: Yankees injured reliever David Aardsma, coming off Tommy John surgery, has begun throwing sliders and some breaking pitches, reports the pitcher through Twitter. Aardsma had been limited to just fastball throwing sessions, but throwing breaking pitches is a step in the positive direction. (Updated 05/15/2012)

Aardsma underwent Tommy John surgery last July and could return to the New York bullpen before the All-Star break. New York's bullpen is in flux right now with Mariano Rivera done for the year and David Robertson, his replacement, on the DL. Aardsma could be a candidate for saves in the right situation.
