Preseason Outlook

After enjoying a third-year starting pitcher breakthrough in 2008, Hamels suffered a World Series hangover last season. He slumped to just 10 victories and saw his ERA (4.33) and WHIP (1.29) soar to career worsts. As disappointing as his regular season was, his postseason got worse when he stated during the World Series he just wished his nightmare year would end. He would have been in line to pitch later in the Series against the Yankees had the Phillies not been eliminated. Hamels was getting his mind and body right this short offseason for a potential rebound in 2010. We are confident enough he will do so -- thanks in part to that great contender he pitches for in Philly -- that we keep him among the top 20 starting pitchers to target on Draft Day.
