Fantasy Analysis
There are obviously varying degrees of Fantasy relevance here, but the important note is these players are signed and their teams think enough of them to not have non-tendered them this winter. The arbitration process is designed to give raises to the deserving players with 2-6 years major league service time. These guys are going to make a lot more money this year and the question of just how much will be answered in the next month or so. (Updated 01/20/2010).
01/22/2010 13:19 2010 Fantasy outlooks: L.A. Angels of Anaheim
The Angels had significant roster turnover this offseason with John Lackey, Vladimir Guerrero and Chone Figgins now in different cities. Our Scott White says there is still plenty left for Fantasy owners to target on Draft Day.
01/22/2010 11:54 2010 Fantasy outlooks: Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers seem to be loaded with a bunch of boom-or-bust types after studs Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder. Our Scott White puts the Brew Crew under the microscope for Fantasy owners.
01/19/2010 21:26 Pitcher Jered Weaver, three other Angels receive contracts
Right-hander Jered Weaver and catcher Mike Napoli were among four players who agreed to one-year contracts with the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday, avoiding salary arbitration.
Aybar, who posted an OPS below .700 in 2008 and looked more like a utility infielder than a legitimate prospect, began to show his potential last year, hitting .312 for the year. Of course, most of that damage came from one especially hot June when he hit .414, which leads to some skepticism entering this season. His lack of power limits his upside, which is normally the type of player you hope to avoid in Fantasy, and he faces the constant threat of Maicer Izturis cutting into his at-bats. But if he develops as much in his third year as he did in his second, he has something to offer Fantasy owners as a good contact hitter with the ability to steal a few bases. And let's face it: At shortstop, you have only so many options. (Updated 1/5/10)
