Fantasy Analysis
Callaspo saw consistent playing time with Los Angeles last year and finished with a career-high .366 on-base percentage. However, the 28-year-old doesn't have a lot of power and his speed has kept him to fewer than 10 stolen bases in each of his six major league seasons. Fantasy owners should consider him a quality option in AL-only formats during the later rounds of drafts for the upcoming season. (Updated 01/16/2012).

Alberto Callaspo was the opening day third baseman for the Angels last season and had another productive campaign with the bat. While his power took a bit of a hit, a strong finish gave him a .288 average with six homers, 46 RBI and eight stolen bases in 141 games. He was unable to hit double-digit homers for the first time since 2008, but his .375 slugging percentage was exactly one point higher than his mark from 2010. There have been rumors that the Angels want to try out Mark Trumbo at third base (due to the signing of Albert Pujols) but Trumbo has not been able to get much work at the hot corner this offseason as he continues to recover from a stress fracture in his foot. Keep an eye on the situation going forward as Callaspo still lines up to be a starter at this point. Callaspo could be in line for a fairly productive campaign in 2012, but due to his lack of power -- and the possibility of limited playing time -- target him in deeper mixed leagues and AL-only formats on Draft Day.
