Santana pitches well in ND : Angels pitcher Ervin Santana did not factor into the decision during Sunday's contest against the Padres. Santana, who was making his ninth start of the year, allowed two runs on six hits over six innings in the 3-2 defeat. Both runs he surrendered came in the fifth inning on a two-run double off the bat of Yonder Alonso. Santana was pulled after throwing 92 pitches and finished with six strikeouts and two walks, while earning the no-decision. (Updated 05/20/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Santana turned in another quality start on Sunday, but this time was not rewarded with a win. Still, the right-hander has looked much better on the mound over his last few outings after getting off to a rough start. Santana has allowed three runs or less in in each of his last five starts and has gone 2-2 with a 1.75 ERA over that span. He has also racked up 29 strikeouts during his run and will look himself back in the win column when he makes his next start, which is scheduled for Friday at Seattle. Santana went 2-2 with a 2.34 ERA in five starts against the Mariners last season. Fantasy owners should continue to roll with the 29-year-old as a viable option in most mixed formats moving forward. 05/15/2012 21:42 Santana, Angels blank Athletics
Ervin Santana struck out nine during 7 2/3 innings of four-hit ball, Albert Pujols drove in two runs with infield singles, and the Los Angeles Angels rebounded from yet another shutout loss with a 4-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.
05/15/2012 11:00 Albert and the Angels are making shutout history
The Angels have been shut out an incredible eight times in the first 36 games of the season, matching the highest total for any team in the 95 years that baseball-reference.com can search through. Is it all Albert Pujols' fault? Of course not, but in the eight shutouts, Pujols is 3-for-31 (.097).
Ervin Santana got stronger as the season went on in 2011 and ended up having a bounce-back campaign for the Angels. He went 3-8 with a 4.08 ERA over his first 17 starts, but something clicked in July and he would end up going 8-4 with a 2.74 ERA over his final 16 outings. He posted a 1.17 WHIP during that stretch and pitched a no-hitter against the Indians on July 27. While his wins fell from 17 in 2010 to 11 last season, the right-hander posted a career best 3.38 ERA and recorded his most strikeouts since 2008. Santana lines up as the No. 4 starter in Los Angeles -- behind Jered Weaver, Dan Haren and C.J. Wilson -- and has shown over the last two seasons that he has his place in Fantasy. Consider Santana a viable option in mixed leagues on Draft Day, but wait until the middle rounds to scoop him up. (Updated 1/11/12)
