Preseason Outlook

After posting a .909 OPS as a part-timer in 2008, Fontenot appeared ready to take the Fantasy world by storm as an everyday second baseman last year. Instead, he fell into an early slump and never completely pulled himself out of it. He did hit .258 over the final three months of the season -- an improvement over his .236 season mark -- but by then, he had become strictly a platoon player. He can't hope for much more than that with Jeff Baker in town, but as long as he starts against righties, he'll make an impact in NL-only leagues. He still has a decent batting eye and more power than the average middle infielder, but at age 29, he might not have another opportunity for Fantasy greatness. (Updated 1/19/10)
