Maholm struggles again: Cubs starting pitcher Paul Maholm lost his first decision in six starts on Sunday, after he gave up five runs in 6 1/3 innings, as the Cubs lost, 6-0. He struck out five and walked none in the game, however he gave up nine hits, with three of them going over the fences. He had allowed only three runs through six innings, however three hits and a fielders choice chased him from the game in the seventh inning. Maholms ERA rose to 4.73, while he snapped a string of four straight wins to drop his record to 4-3 on the season. (Updated 05/20/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Maholm was riding a four-game stretch where he allowed just three total runs, however over the last two starts he has allowed nine runs in just 12 1/3 innings. Maholm has now allowed nine home runs in 45 2/3 innings on the season, after allowing only 11 in 162 1/3 innings last season. Things get easier in his next start, as he gets set to take on his former team, the Pirates, the worst offense in the National League, on Saturday, so he should still be considered an NL-only starter for Week 8 (May 21-27). 05/10/2012 21:06 Maholm is getting a lot of attention
Cubs pitcher Paul Maholm is one of the most viewed players on CBSSports.com. The Fantasy Baseball 360 crew explains why.
Paul Maholm was always considered a middle-of-the-road pitcher during his six-plus seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He will now fill that role with the Chicago Cubs after signing a one-year deal with the club during the offseason. Maholm projects to be the fourth starter as the Cubs focused on installing depth in their pitching rotation following a 90-loss season in 2011. The left-hander finished 6-14 last season -- his third straight losing campaign -- but he posted a respectable 3.66 ERA, the lowest of his career for a full season. However, he was shut down in early September after only 26 starts because of a left shoulder strain. The 29-year-old, who is typically a groundball pitcher, said he is healthy for the upcoming season and experienced some success at Wrigley Field last season. Maholm went 1-0 and did not allow a run in two starts -- a span of 15 2/3 innings -- at his new home. He won’t overwhelm batters for many strikeouts and should be viewed as a late-round option in NL-only Fantasy drafts for the upcoming season. (Updated 2/6/12)
