Mets' David Wright hopes to be cleared for light activities Friday
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(4/16/15) Mets third baseman David Wright (hamstring) hopes that he'll be cleared to resume light physical activities by Friday morning or Saturday at the latest, MLB.com reports.
Wright received a cortisone shot in his leg that left him unable to jog, lift weights or do any exercises in his normal routine Thursday, so he spend the day preparing mentally as if he were starting Thursday night, studying video of Marlins starter Jarred Cosart and attending the hitters' meeting.
"I still try to go through my day with something productive and at least have some sort of routine," Wright said. "I try to stay somewhat involved, at least mentally." He laughed. "But I'm still bored out of my mind."
The Mets expect Wright to miss two-to-three weeks with the injury.
Mets place David Wright (hamstring) on 15-day DL

|(4/15/15) The Mets placed third baseman David Wright on the 15-day disabled list with a mild strain of the right hamstring, per the team's official website.
Wright suffered the injury while sliding into second base on a stolen base attempt late in Tuesday's game against Philadelphia. He underwent an MRI and received cortisone shot. He will rest for two days and will resume baseball actives as tolerated. Manager Terry Collins said the diagnosis was "a little better than expected," and remains hopeful that Wright is only out a minimum of two weeks, per Newsday and ESPN. General Manager Sandy Alderson said three weeks is more of a realistic estimate for his return.
Wright held a .333 batting average (11 for 33) with a home run, four RBI and two stolen bases in eight games.
Report: Mets' David Wright likely headed to the disabled list
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(4/15/15) Mets third baseman David Wright is likely headed to the disabled list with a pulled right hamstring, reports ESPN. Wright suffered the injury while sliding into second base on a stolen base attempt late in Tuesday's game against Philadelphia. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Wednesday to determine the extent of the injury.
"A couple of feet before the bag I just felt my hamstring grab," Wright said. "I thought it might be something that I could stretch out a little bit. But then I took a couple of secondary leads and just realized that if the ball was put in play I wouldn't have been able to do anything positive, that's for sure. It took a couple a pitches and it didn't get any better. That's when I thought I'd rather say something and hopefully catch this thing before I make the same mistake I made a couple of years ago, when I tried to play through it and made it worse.
"Anytime you feel something like that, you hope that it goes away. And this just didn't go away."
Eric Campbell from Triple-A Las Vegas appears to be the likely replacement if Wright lands on the DL.
Mets third baseman David Wright leaves with a right hamstring injury

|(4/14/15) Mets third baseman David Wright left Tuesday's game against the Phillies with aright hamstring pull after sliding into second base, reports MLB.com.
Wright slid into second when trying to steal the base and came up lame, needing medical attention. Wright stayed in for a few more pitches before heading back to the locker room for further evaluation.
"That's a major problem," manager Terry Collins said.
Wright said after the game he took the cautious approach instead of taking the risk and playing through the injury. He felt his hamstring grab a few steps before he made it to second base.
He will have an MRI Wednesday and the team will bring Eric Campbell to New York in the event a roster spot opens up, the team announced.
Wright went 2 for 5 before leaving the game.
David Wright, John Mayberry go back-to-back for Mets
|by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com|
|(4/11/15) David Wright and John Mayberry hit back-to-back home runs for the Mets in a 5-3 loss to Atlanta.
Wright hit a two-run shot in the fourth, and Mayberry followed with a solo shot. It was each player's first home run of the year.
Wright went three for four and is hitting .353 on the year. Mayberry went one for four and is hitting .250.
|2014 summary: Having missed 28 games due to shoulder and neck injuries, David Wright was out due to health reasons less often last season than in 2013, but the ailments took a huge toll on his season nonetheless. Wright hurt his left shoulder on June 12 on a headfirst slide, and it nagged him the rest of the season, eventually leading him to be shut down in early September. The Mets' third baseman hit for little power after the injury, but he was having struggles even before then, as he struck out in 23 percent of his at-bats up to that point. Wright's eight home runs, .324 on-base percentage and .374 slugging percentage were career lows, and he fell outside the top 15 for third basemen in Fantasy value. |
Playing time status: Wright is still recovering from his shoulder injury this offseason, but he is expected to avoid surgery and be ready for spring training.
2015 outlook: Just three seasons ago, Wright was unquestionably one of the elite third basemen, but coming off a shoulder injury, there are more reasons to doubt his return to that level than ever before. He looks almost certain to have at least a partial rebound, and that should land him back in the top 10 at his position. Wright is no longer someone to target within the first three rounds, but he is worth pursuing once the first five rounds have elapsed.
