David Wright, Daniel Murphy get tossed in series finale vs. Angels
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/13/14) Mets third baseman David Wright and second baseman Daniel Murphy were ejected by home plate umpire Toby Basner in the seventh inning against the Angels Sunday for arguing balls and strikes.

Omar Quintanilla took over second base for Murphy while Josh Satin shifted to third for Wright. This was Murphy's first career ejection while Wright has been tossed four times already in his career.

Wright finished 1 for 3 with an RBI single in the opening frame, raising his batting average to .229 on the year. Murphy struck out once and went 0 for 3, lowering his batting average to .256 over his first 46 at-bats. He's been held without a hit over his last 10 at-bats.
David Wright won't blame struggles on illness
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/10/14) Mets third baseman David Wright snapped a 0-for-13 slump with a 2-for-4 performance Wednesday against the Braves, raising his season average to .233.

Although Wright was dealing with an illness earlier in the week, he refuses to blame his offensive struggles on not feeling well.

"I am getting some pitches that I should be doing more with than I am," Wright said, per the New York Post. "I’ve gotten in some good situations where I’m just missing pitches or hitting a ball hard, but right at people. Hopefully those start falling in. Once you get a couple of those to fall in, it seems like you can get on a roll a little bit."

Mets manager Terry Collins expects his star player to begin to turn things around on offense.

"This might be the best day he’s felt health-wise in about four," Collins said. "In the years that I’ve been here, you look up at this time of year and this guy is hitting .400, so this is a little bit of a difference for him. But I’m sure he’s been through this before, we’re going to look up at the end of the year and his numbers are going to be David Wright numbers."

David Wright in lineup Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/8/14) Mets third baseman David Wright is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Braves.

Wright has been dealing with the flu, and he was so sick in recent days that the team was unsure if he would be able to play Tuesday, ESPNNewYork.com reports. Wright has opened the season with a .238/.320/.381 line and one home run in 21 at-bats.

David Wright in the lineup Sunday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(3/9/14) Mets third baseman David Wright is in the starting lineup Sunday.

The team has been cautious to overexert Wright this spring. He played in his first spring game Friday, but was held out of Saturday's game. Wright isn't dealing with any injuries, the team just wants to keep him healthy.

Wright hit .307/.390/.514 in 430 at-bats last season.

David Wright goes hitless in debut
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/7/14) Mets third baseman David Wright went 0 for 3 in his spring debut Friday as the Mets and Cardinals finished the game tied, 5-5.

"First game everything feels a little awkward," Wright told The Star-Ledger Friday. "It doesn't help all that much that the first guy you face throws 97 (mph). But it's good, it's good to be out there and get the first one under your belt."

Wright wasn't held out before Friday due to injury; rather, the team wanted him to get a later start to help avoid fatigue.
