League holds down Rangers in ninth: Seattle closer Brandon League became a necessity on Wednesday afternoon in a win over the Rangers. After Tom Wilhelmsen gave up three runs to the Rangers in the eighth inning, the game became a save situation and the Mariners called on League. League went 1-2-3 in the ninth with two strikeouts for his ninth save of the season. He needed 11 pitches and nine went for strikes. League's ERA is now at 3.72 for the season. (Updated 05/23/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
League rebounded from back-to-back poor efforts in which he allowed four runs on six hits -- including a homer -- with three walks over just 1 1/3 innings. He took a loss and his third blown save in that grouping. League showed the ability to bounce back Wednesday, however, and is not in jeopardy of losing his job. Despite his recent issues, League can continue to viewed as a No. 2 Fantasy reliever in mixed formats. (Updated 05/23/2012).
05/23/2012 20:19 M's nip Rangers on historic Liddi slam
Alex Liddi hit the first major-league grand slam by an Italian-born player in half-century, Kevin Millwood threw six shutout innings and the Seattle Mariners took two of three from division-leading Texas with a 5-3 win over the Rangers on Wednesday.
05/17/2012 17:31 Santana's single bails out Indians in 11th
Carlos Santana hit a game-ending single with one out and the bases loaded in the 11th inning, capping a two-run rally and lifting the Cleveland Indians to a 6-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Thursday.
Brandon League had a breakout campaign for the Mariners in 2011. Taking over as closer for David Aaardsma, who missed the entire season due to injury, he converted each of his first nine saves before blowing three straight. He would rebound to go 23 for 27 in save chances in the first half and earned his first career trip to the All-Star game. The right-hander finished the year 37 for 42 in save opportunities with a 2.79 ERA and will remain the ninth-inning man in Seattle entering 2012. While the Mariners are not expected to win a ton of games, they should be in a lot of close contests, giving League ample opportunities for saves. Target League in the later rounds of mixed leagues on Draft Day as he does not post as many strikeouts as an elite Fantasy closer would. (Updated 1/3/12)
