Preseason Outlook

For the second straight year, Murphy got nearly a full season of at-bats, and for the second straight year, he set a career high in home runs, this time with 17. The Rangers have added enough talent around the 28-year-old that he doesn't need to play every day, but with 32 home runs over his last two seasons, he's as good of a fourth outfielder as you'll find in the majors. And with Josh Hamilton, Nelson Cruz and Vladimir Guerrero all showing a propensity for injury and Julio Borbon unproven in center field, you can bet Murphy will get his at-bats. You wouldn't want to draft him outside of AL-only leagues, but he'll probably make an impact in mixed leagues at some point this season. (Updated 1/19/10)
