Murphy hits inside-the-park HR: Rangers outfielder David Murphy hit his first inside-the-park home run during Saturday night's contest against the Astros. Murphy ripped a shot into right field in the third inning that went all the way to the wall in between Justin Maxwell and Jordan Schafer, who both dove for the ball. "I don't hit many of those, so I couldn't tell ya," said Murphy when asked when was the last time he hit one outside of the majors. "I saw both guys dive and after I saw it got past them, I was probably halfway between first and second and I knew I had a chance. I started running as fast as I could and I probably put it in overdrive a little too quickly because I ran out of gas in the end." (Updated 05/20/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Murphy's inside-the-park job was his fourth home run of the year and provided most of Texas' offense on Saturday night. The 30-year-old continues to see fairly regular starts in the outfield for the Rangers, but he does lose some starts to Josh Hamilton on the days manager Ron Washington wants to start Craig Gentry in center field. Still, Murphy's decent pop and ability to hit for average continue to give him value in deeper mixed and AL-only formats. Continue to view him as such heading into Week 8 (May 21-27). David Murphy has always been one of those fringe Fantasy contributors throughout his major league career. Nestled in a crowded Texas outfield, Murphy appeared in 120 games for the Rangers last season and posted a .275 batting average with 11 home runs and 46 RBI. Despite splitting time at all three outfield positions with several other players, he was able to garner 400-plus at-bats for the fourth consecutive season and delivered more than 100 hits. After receiving everyday playing time, Murphy surged at the end of the year and registered a sparkling .351 batting average during the month of September. He also belted four homers and drove in 15 runs -- both monthly highs for the season -- before carrying over his solid offensive production into the postseason (.317 average). Murphy will likely assume the same role as Texas’ fourth outfielder this season and should come close to duplicating his numbers from last year. At age 30, he lacks upside but is a quality option in the later rounds of 2012 Fantasy drafts. (Updated 2/6/12)
