McGehee losing grip on job: Pittsburgh infielder Casey McGehee went 0 for 2 with a walk during the Pirates' 3-2 win over Houston in 12 innings on Sunday. McGehee has gone hitless in five of his past six games for a lackluster .143 batting average during the month of May. Overall, he's hitting just .233 for the year. (Updated 05/13/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
McGehee's playing time has dropped since the first month of the season as he's registered only five starts through the first 11 games of May. Yes, he was in a platoon situation with Garrett Jones at first base, but his power has evaporated and he has yet to hit a home run with his new team. McGehee is carrying just a .190 slugging percentage. Consider him a low-end reserve option in NL-only Fantasy formats. (Updated 05/13/2012).

Casey McGehee took a big step back for the Brewers in 2011 and found himself on a new club in the offseason. After breaking out with 23 home runs and 104 RBI in 2010, he hit .294 over his first 22 games last season before the wheels came off. He batted just .210 the rest of the way and finished with 13 homers and 67 RBI in 546 at-bats. He started losing playing time in Milwaukee due to his lack of production but could gain an everyday role with the Pirates. Pittsburgh has been very disappointed with Pedro Alvarez and will have the 29-year-old complete with him at the hot corner during the spring. If McGehee cannot win a starting job, he will likely see some time against lefties either at first or third. McGehee would be worth a look in deeper mixed leagues if he sees everyday at-bats, but as a backup, he would be best suited for NL-only formats. (Updated 1/12/12)
