Preseason Outlook

Despite his size, Sweeney has yet to emerge as a power hitter at age 25, and he perhaps never will. He has, however, demonstrated a better contact rate than most hitters his age, which allowed him to hit .319 in the second half last year. Still, without any power or speed, he can't hit any lower than that and still make an impact in mixed leagues. Throw in a knee injury that plagued him for much of last season and the fact he often sits against left-handers and you can safely leave him for AL-only leagues on Draft Day. Besides, the A's have a crowded outfield with the additions of Jake Fox, Coco Crisp and Matt Carson. (Updated 1/19/10)
