Preseason Outlook

Quentin came within a broken wrist of winning the AL MVP in 2008, making the Diamondbacks look foolish for giving up on him after a shoulder injury stifled him one year earlier, and he began last year fine, hitting eight home runs in April. But that's when the trouble started. What began as a heel injury in mid-May morphed into plantar fasciitis -- a nagging injury that cost him nearly two months of action and jeopardized his entire season. A special shoe enabled him to return after the All-Star break and play virtually every day, but he never did regain his '08 form, hitting no better than .253 over any full month. The question now is whether or not the injuries -- both to his foot and his wrist -- held him back last year or if he simply overperformed the year before. Based on his walk-to-strikeout ratio, we think he'll come surging back this year. Consider him a value pick as a potential bounce-back candidate in the early-to-middle rounds. (Updated 1/13/10)
