|Andre Ethier gets pregame work at first base |
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
(8/8/14) Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier worked at first base with manager Don Mattingly before Friday's game, MLB.com reports.
Ethier has played one inning at first base in his career, and that came in a game in 2010. He hasn't seen regular playing time in the outfield lately, logging just one complete game since July 22. Ethier has hit .245/.308/.369 with four home runs and 38 RBI in 290 at-bats.
|Dodgers not expected to make change to OF alignment |
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
(7/9/14) Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Wednesday he doesn't expect to change the outfield alignment as Carl Crawford (ankle) is set to return from the disabled list this week, per MLB.com.
"I'm not really planning on making any big changes right now," Mattingly said.
Mattingly added he's happy with Matt Kemp in left field, and the platoon of Andre Ethier and Scott Van Slyke in center field.
"I like what's going on in center," Mattingly said. "We're playing pretty well. We'll talk about it. But as long as we're playing well and continue to win, we'll have conversations with everybody."
|Andre Ethier back, Hanley Ramirez still out for Dodgers |
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
(6/28/14) The Dodgers have returned one standout Saturday, but not the other.
Outfielder Andre Ethier is in the lineup against St. Louis after not starting Friday night with a swollen knee. Shortstop Hanley Ramirez, however, remains sidelined for the fifth straight game with a shoulder issue.

(6/27/14) Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier got the night off Friday against the Cardinals, due to swelling in his right knee. He apparently fouled a pitch off the knee Thursday, but manager Don Mattingly told the Los Angeles Times he expects Ethier back in the lineup Saturday.
|Andre Ethier recovers from back injury, starts Tuesday |
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
(6/10/14) Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier was back in the starting lineup Tuesday at Cincinnati after missing two straight starts with a back injury. Ethier heads into Tuesday's game batting .147 (5 for 34) in his last nine games.
|The Dodgers probably wish time travel exists because they would certainly like to go back in time to June 2012 and prevent the organization from making the mistake of signing Andre Ethier to a six-year contract extension. Now, the team is stuck with an overpaid fourth outfielder. The quick ascension of Yasiel Puig has pushed Ethier to the bench in Los Angeles. The Dodgers were able to give Ethier regular at-bats last season because of injuries to Carl Crawford and Matt Kemp, but if everyone is healthy heading into 2014 and the Dodgers can't trade Ethier, then he likely becomes the first outfielder off the bench -- and a very expensive one at that (set to make $15.5 million). Ethier's power has declined as he's gotten older. The days of him being a .500 slugger are long gone. He hit .272 with a .423 slugging percentage, 12 home runs, 33 doubles and 52 RBI in 142 games last season. Ethier still had his issues against left-handed pitchers last season, so when he does start in 2014, it will probably be when a right-hander is on the hill. Ethier is shaping up to be at best a mid-to-late-round Fantasy option on Draft Day.
