Schierholtz, who routinely hit .300 with 15-plus homers in the minors, got his first significant playing time in the majors last year and looked ... painfully average. He hit .267, struck out too much and in no way resembled a power hitter. Still, the Giants appreciate his upside enough to give him an even longer look this season, perhaps even starting him in right field if he can beat on John Bowker and Eugenio Velez. Because he bats left-handed, Schierholtz might find himself in a lefty-righty platoon, which wouldn't make much sense considering he hit .370 with three of his five home runs in 54 at-bats against lefties last year. But we all know managers have done less sensible things. For now, think of Schierholtz as an NL-only sleeper, but if he gets to play every day and becomes the .300 hitter he should, he'll matter in mixed leagues. (Updated 1/20/10)
