| Brandon Moss gets back into HR column |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/12/13) Athletics first baseman/outfielder Brandon Moss homered for the first time in 11 games (eight starts) Saturday against the Mariners. Moss ended his home run drought with a solo shot off Charlie Furbush in the sixth inning.
Moss, who last home runs came in a two-homer outing April 29 against the Angels, is batting .188 (6 for 32) with one home run, two doubles, two RBI, three walks, three runs and 11 strikeouts in his last 11 games.

| Brandon Moss making A's outfield situation 'a lot easier' |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/9/13) The Athletics are a banged up bunch, which includes three outfielders -- Josh Reddick, Coco Crisp and Chris Young -- on the disabled list.
Manager Bob Melvin said the unfortunate circumstances are made a little easier thanks to a versatile player like first baseman Brandon Moss, who can play multiple positions.
"We never expected to have three of our outfielders on the [disabled list] at the same time, but a guy like Brandon Moss makes it a lot easier," Melvin said, per MLB.com. "He can go from first base and go to the outfield rather easily. We still have four good outfielders here right now. It's just a little different dynamic at first base."

| Brandon Moss awesome away from home |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/6/13) Athletics first baseman Brandon Moss enters play Monday at Cleveland batting .409 on the road, which is the second-best road batting average in the AL. Moss, who also has two home runs and 13 RBI in 14 road games, is batting just .184 in 14 home games.
Moss, who has started once in four May games, is batting .200 (1 for 5) with one walk and two strikeouts this month. He finished April batting .326 (15 for 46) with two doubles, two home runs and nine RBI in his last 12 games.

| Hoping for more power from Brandon Moss |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (5/1/13) Athletics first baseman Brandon Moss has been productive, but not exactly in the way we expected. After hitting 21 home runs in 265 at-bats last year, he has only four in his first 84 at-bats to begin the season, even after a two home-run game Monday. Despite that, he has 19 RBI, 10th-most in the American League.
Moss has been able to sustain a high batting average despite lacking home-run power, but he will need to homer more often before his .404 batting average on balls in play comes crashing down. Fantasy owners are happy with his production, but his track record does not make him a must-start option. He has to earn your trust. A few more homers would help.

| Brandon Moss saves best for last |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (4/30/13) Athletics first baseman Brandon Moss hit two home runs, including the game-winner with two outs in the bottom of the 19th inning, to lift Oakland to a 10-8 victory over the Angels Monday night. He finished 3 for 8 with a solo homer and a two-run blast but also whiffed three times in the nearly seven-hour marathon.
"It was a crazy game, and I'm glad it's over," said Moss, who also drew a walk and stole his first base of the season. "That was exhausting, it really was. It's one of those things where you just want to quit, but at the same time you don't want to lose so you're not going to quit. You just keep fighting through and keep hoping they throw a ball into your bat."

Hit Parade for Week 7

| When the Athletics installed Brandon Moss as their first baseman last June, they were bringing aboard a top minor league prospect -- from the mid 2000s. Back in 2005, Moss was ranked by Baseball America as their No. 72 prospect, but from that point forward, it had been a slow ride to oblivion. In 2010 and 2011 combined, Moss played in only 22 major league games, so Fantasy owners could be forgiven for thinking that the A's were just giving Moss a proverbial cup of coffee. By the end of June, Moss had already mashed seven homers, and even after losing playing time to Chris Carter for a period midseason, he finished with 21 home runs and a .291 batting average. Moss will likely platoon at first base again in 2013, perhaps with Jed Lowrie this time, and the timeshare situation hurts both players in points leagues. However, Moss can give owners enough power and run production in limited at-bats to be worth using in deeper mixed Rotisserie leagues. (Updated 2/5/13) |
