Indians OF Brandon Moss breaks out with two HRs, seven RBI

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/24/15) Indians outfielder Brandon Moss homered twice and totaled a career-high seven RBI during a 13-1 rout of the Tigers on Friday.

Moss got the offense going early Friday, as he had a two-out, two-RBI double in the first inning off Shane Greene.

Moss then greeted reliever Alex Wilson in the fifth inning with a three-run homer to right field. He finished off his offensive outburst with a two-run homer off reliever Al Alburquerque in the ninth inning.

Moss' previous high was six RBI, which he also had in a game against the Tigers in 2013. He has had seven multihomer games in his career.

Moss is batting .214 with three home runs and nine RBI in 13 games.

"You want to impress," Moss said, per MLB.com. "You want to get off to a good start. But mainly, when the offense is struggling, you want to be something that sparks and ignites it, to help out and do what you're supposed to do.

"I was putting a lot of pressure on myself to come out of it quicker than I was coming out of it. The pressure mounts on you, and you start looking at the scoreboard and seeing it go .048, .032, and you're like, 'What in the world?' It's just one of those things that can weigh on you. I knew I would come out of it. It was just wanting to come out of it sooner."

History at Target Field could factor into Indians' Moss snapping slump

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/16/15) It has been well-documented already that Indians outfielder Brandon Moss is not off to a good start offensively. The 31-year-old slugger is batting just .100 (2 for 20) with no home runs and one RBI in seven games.

Well, Friday against the Twins could serve as a good opportunity for Moss to put an end to his struggles since Mike Pelfrey will be on the mound. Moss has had some success against Pelfrey in his career, batting .500 (5 for 10) with one double, two RBI and one walk.

Moss also has had success at Target Field. In six games, he is batting .333 (8 for 24) with one home run, three doubles, seven RBI and eight runs.

Indians' Francona confident Brandon Moss will get on track

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/15/15) Indians outfielder Brandon Moss got a day off Wednesday against the White Sox after striking out four times Tuesday.

While the Indians have faced five left-handed starters in eight games, the left-handed hitting Moss hasn't fared well against right-handed pitchers either. He is batting .083 (1 for 12) against righties, while batting .125 (1 for 8) against lefties.

"I'm kind of conflicted in my approach right now," Moss said, per Cleveland.com. "I'm getting a lot of offspeed pitches early in the count. So do I go up looking for that or do I stick to my middle-of-the-field approach?

"(Tuesday) was one of those nights where I was trying to see more pitches to find that timing and comfort zone. But everytime I looked up I was 0-2 or 1-2 and it's really hard to hit that way. It's one of the things where the more pitches you see and better at bats you start to put together, it will come."

Moss struck out 153 times in 500 at-bats with the A's last season.

"There is some swing-and-miss in his game which we knew," manager Terry Francona said. "He's going through it right now. In spring training, he came out and was hitting the ball all over the place with no at-bats under his belt.

"Now he's going through his rough little stretch, but that will change. There's a lot of production in that bat and we'll see it."

Indians' Brandon Moss trying to shake off slow start

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(4/13/15) First baseman Brandon Moss was 2-for-2 with two walks and a double in the Indians' loss to the Tigers on Sunday, his best game of the young season as he tries to make an impact with his new team.

Moss, who was acquired from Oakland in the offseason, blasted five home runs in spring training, but started the regular season in an 0-for-12 funk before registering his first hit last Friday.

"It felt good," Moss told Cleveland.com. "It was definitely a frustrating little thing to go through, but you go through those things. The biggest thing is to remember you've done those kind of things before and that you'll get a hit eventually."

Moss has three hits in 16 at-bats, but has drawn four walks this season.

Brandon Moss hits fourth spring homer for Indians

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(3/31/15) Indians outfielder Brandon Moss hit his fourth home run of the spring on Tuesday, hitting a two-run shot off Felix Hernandez.

Moss went two for three with three RBI. The performance raised his spring average to .297. He has eight RBI on the spring.
