Preseason Outlook

Though they had used him mostly as a middle reliever, the Diamondbacks committed to Buckner as a starting pitcher in 2009. The right-hander didn't fare particularly well in the role, posting a 5.89 ERA in 13 major-league starts, but the Diamondbacks liked his makeup enough to designate him the leading candidate for the fifth rotation spot this spring. His 3.93 ERA over his final six starts didn't hurt either. The 26-year-old doesn't have much upside, but if he can hold it together like he did down the stretch last year, he'll make an impact in NL-only leagues. Take a flier on him in those deeper formats.
