Preseason Outlook

Coming off a year in which he posted a 1.122 OPS in the minors, Cruz finally got more than just a trial run in the majors and responded with 33 home runs, 20 stolen bases and his first ever trip to the All-Star game. But for whatever reason, manager Ron Washington never fully trusted him as an everyday player, sitting him for 34 games (though, in fairness, Cruz did miss 15 of those games with a sprained ankle). Sure, Cruz struck out too much and had some fairly lengthy cold streaks, but power is power, speed is speed, and with a little more playing time, Cruz might have had a 30-30 or perhaps even a 40-30 season. The 29-year-old's limited and sometimes inconsistent at-bats make him at best a No. 2 Fantasy outfielder -- one that might fall to the middle rounds -- but with more consistent play and more consistent playing time, he could become a No. 1. Just watch out for the drain on your batting average. (Updated 1/13/10)
