Seth Smith leading off for Mariners on Wednesday

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(4/22/15) The Mariners are going with Seth Smith at leadoff for Wednesday night's game against the Astros.

Smith will serve as Seattle's designated hitter for this game with Nelson Cruz playing right field. Dustin Ackley, who hit leadoff on Tuesday, is playing in left field and is batting seventh. First baseman Logan Morrison is hitting sixth.

Mariners OF Nelson Cruz collects two hits Monday

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(4/21/15) Mariners outfielder Nelson Cruz continued his hot start when he drove in two runs during Monday's 7-5 loss to the Astros.

Cruz was 2 of 5 during the game, including a double in the fifth inning, which drove in Robinson Cano. He also struck out once. Cruz is not batting .358 on the season.

Mariners' Nelson Cruz rips two homers, walk-off single in win Sunday

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(4/19/15) Mariners right fielder Nelson Cruz went 3 for 6 at the plate Sunday with two home runs and the game-winning walk off single in the ninth to lead Seattle to an 11-10 win over the Rangers.

Cruz got things going early with a solo homer in the first over the left center field wall on a 1-0 pitch from Ross Detwiler. Cruz then homered again in the third, again off Detwiler, over the left field wall for a three-run shot, his eighth of the season.

Cruz then came up in the ninth with the game tied at 10 and the bases loaded after Texas intentionally walked Robinson Cano. Cruz ripped a 2-2 pitch to left field, bringing home the winning run.

"It was a great win," Cruz said to MLB.com. "I think we need this one. [I was looking for] something that I can put in play. I strike out three times with runners on … When it mattered the most, I get the hit."

Cruz is now hitting .354 with 14 RBI in 48 at-bats this season.

Mariners OF Nelson Cruz goes for six straight games with HR

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/17/15) Mariners outfielder Nelson Cruz will seek to hit a home run in a sixth straight game Friday against the Rangers. Given his history against Rangers starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo, it's a strong possibility the streak might continue.

Cruz is 2 for 2 in his career against Gallardo, with both of his hits being home runs. Cruz has also drawn a walk off the right-hander.

Cruz has already homered six times during his career-best home run streak. His previous best was four straight games, which he accomplished during the 2011 season.

Mariners' Nelson Cruz slugs sixth home run Wednesday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/16/15) Mariners right fielder Nelson Cruz went 2 for 3 with a walk and a solo home run in his team's 5-2 loss to the Dodgers Wednesday.

Cruz knocked his MLB-leading sixth home run in the fourth inning of Wednesday's game, but the Mariners weren't able to muster up enough offense to keep up with the Dodgers after giving up three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The right fielder has now hit at least one home run in five straight games. Cruz has hit .294 while collecting nine RBI in nine games.
