Preseason Outlook

We have seen Liriano as potentially one of the most dominant left-handers in baseball (pre-surgery) and then seen him as a good-for-nothing mopup man at times last season. He obviously is neither that good nor that bad going forward. The question is where does he fall? Let's go with somewhere right in the middle. In setting his projections for 2010, we took his career ERA of 4.16 and decided that was a good place to start. It slots him out of the top 60 Fantasy starting pitchers to target on Draft Day. Tommy John surgery is no reason to consider a former ace done. That's shoulder surgery. So, another year removed and an offseason to work on his mechanics could help Liriano become a Fantasy ace again. Draft him late for some potentially great rewards. (Updated 1/12/10)
