Jones to stay in Pittsburgh: CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees offered A.J. Burnett to the Pirates, but had asked for OF Garrett Jones in return. The Pirates balked at the offer, as they want to hold on to Jones. However, negotiations for a trade involving Burnett are ongoing, as the teams are differing on how much of Burnett's salary that Yankees should pay. (Updated 02/10/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Should the Pirates change their minds, Jones would certainly benefit from a move to the Yankees and their homer-friendly park. However, it appears that Jones will be staying put in Pittsburgh, where he will remain an option mostly for owners in NL-only leagues. (Updated 02/10/2012).
09/21/2011 01:21 Pirates slow Diamondbacks' drive toward NL West title
Charlie Morton threw six scoreless innings and the Pittsburgh Pirates slowed Arizona's drive toward the NL West title with a 5-3 victory over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday night.
Garrett Jones saw a dip in his power and average in 2011 as he became more of a platoon player after seeing 592 at-bats the year before. His home runs fell from 21 each of the last two previous seasons to 16 in 2011 and he drove in just 58 runs. While he saw some action at first base, he mainly split time in the outfield and hardly played when a lefty was on the mound. He saw just 68 at-bats against southpaws and hit .147 against them. Heading into 2012, he appears to have a leg up on the job at first base and hopefully he will be able to raise his .245 batting average over the last two seasons. While the 20-homer power is there, Jones has been too inconsistent to trust in larger Fantasy formats and appears to have peaked at age 30. Leave Jones for NL-only formats on Draft Day but he might be worth a look in deeper mixed leagues later in the year if he is seeing everyday at-bats. (Updated 2/8/12)
