Baker was limited to 16 games in 2011 because of Tommy John surgery and then traded to San Diego in the offseason. Baker is a good contact hitter, but he is not expected to play every day. Baker could serve as a backup to C Nick Hundley, though a straight platoon is possible, as Baker hits left-handed while Hundley is right-handed.
