It finally happened. It took a year longer than most people expected, but Cano finally emerged as everything he could and should be. He avoided the first-half slump of years past and produced a remarkably even season that saw him hit for both average and power. The power was the most important development. His 25 home runs ranked sixth among second basemen and finally solidified his place as one of the top offensive players at the position. About the only thing he doesn't do is walk, which explains why his runs scored might lag behind his other numbers, but hitting in a loaded Yankees lineup deflects some of that damage. Plus, he's 27. His plate discipline can only improve from here. Four or five second basemen might go off the board before Cano on Draft Day, but he's arguably as good as any of them not named Chase Utley.
