Mariners' Robinson Cano dealing with flu-like symptoms

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8:50 pm ET) Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano is missing his first start this season on Thursday due to flu-like symptoms, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports.

Manager Lloyd McClendon said that Cano's symptoms popped up overnight after the team returned home from a road trip. He added that the second baseman had lost a couple pounds due to dehydration and was receiving fluids.

Cano, who went 9 for 37 on the road trip, has hit .253/.296/.333 with one home run and 13 RBI in 186 at-bats.

Mariners 2B Robinson Cano gets first day of rest on Thursday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(6:11 pm ET) Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano is out of the lineup for Thursday's series-opener against the Indians. Cano had started every game for the Mariners this season, but he's been mired in a bit of a funk lately.

Over his last 10 games, Cano is batting just .225 (9 for 40) with zero extra base hits. So manager Lloyd McClendon opted to finally give his star a breather.

Brad Miller will handle the keystone position on Thursday.

Mariners 2B Robinson Cano endless hitless streak, grabs two RBI

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(5/25/15) Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano went 2 for 4 at the plate in Seattle's 4-1 win over the Rays on Monday to end a 12 at-bats hitless streak.

Cano produced two RBI singles, one in the first and one in the eighth, to help propel Seattle to the win.

"Hopefully we start from today," said Cano to the Associated Press.

Manager Lloyd McClendon was happy for his slugger to snap out of it.

"There's nothing like positive results," McClendon said. "The guy's track record is so good, you know he's going to hit. You're just waiting on when. It does show how good we can be from a lineup standpoint when he's hitting."

Cano is now hitting .253 with 13 RBI in 178 at-bats this season.

Mariners 2B Robinson Cano working through struggles

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(5/24/15) Robinson Cano is one of the game's best players, but he's been embroiled in a season-long slump for the Mariners, one that has seen his usually solid batting average dip to .247. Cano told MLB.com that he has "no excuses" for his slow start.

Cano went 0-for-11 in the Mariners' three-game series at Toronto, and Sunday, twice hit into double plays to kill potential big innings for Seattle.

"I don't know. I feel good. I'm swinging at good balls," Cano said. "I think it's just more just missing my pitches, pitches right down the middle that I've been hitting for foul balls. There's no excuses for that. I'm just struggling."

Cano's on-base percentage is .290, below his career average of .356.

"The last thing I want to do is hang my head. It's a long season," he said. "And hopefully it'll turn soon."

Robinson Cano moves from second to DH for Mariners

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(5/24/15) Robinson Cano gets a day off from the field on Sunday for the first time this season. After starting the first 42 games for the Mariners at second base, Cano is in the lineup as DH.

Brad Miller replaces Cano at second base, batting leadoff.

"He played second in spring training quite a bit," McClendon said to The News Tribune. "If you can play short, you can play second. Is he the greatest second baseman in the world? No. But he'll make the plays. He'll be fine."

The Mariners also started Welington Castillo at catcher for the second time this year, giving Mike Zunino a rest.
